Five Ways To Use Mustard Everyday

Great tasting mustards have always had a home with hotdogs and burgers, but this underrated condiment can be used for so much more. Its intense flavour of sweet and spicy is the perfect addition to help add depth to your mealtimes, any day of the week.

The Filligans mustard range includes classic favourites such as Wholegrain, Hot Yellow and Grainy Yellow Mustard as well as contemporary flavours Rosemary & Garlic and Sundried Tomato & Balsamic Vinegar. Recipes for each of our mustard products has either been passed down through generations or created through the process of taste-testing.

So aside from your usual hotdogs and burgers, here are five ways to use mustard:

  1. Marinate Your Meat

There’s nothing worse than dreaming of a tender piece of meat to find that it’s tough and chewy, but we have the solution. Using our Rosemary and Garlic Mustard, marinate your meat leaving you with a mouth-watering piece of meat packed full of intense flavour. Also works great for cooked steaks.

  1. Honey and Mustard Combo

The sweet-spicy flavour of honey and our wholegrain mustard can add layers of flavour to any dish. Combine the two and add to chicken fillets for a tasty dinner alternative. Also great for glazing ham to give it a crispy coat.

  1. Dressing for Salad

Spring is here and summer salad season is on its way. Cheer up that simple salad and give it a kick with a spoonful of mustard. Our Sundried Tomato & Balsamic Mustard is hugely popular so next time you’re making lunch, be sure to add your secret ingredient in.

  1. Seafood Delights

Adding mustard to seafood is a great way to bring flavour and warmth to your plate. Grainy mustards work great with fish so add your favourite flavour to salmon, cod or hake for a meal that will leave you wanting more!

  1. Simple Sandwich Spread

Last but not least is the obvious one! Mustard is well known for its use as a simple spread on sandwiches but our mustard range is so much more. It’s 100% natural, has no artificial colours or flavours and every jar is made with love and care. We have something to suit all taste buds from grainy and smooth.

Located in west Donegal, Filligans is family-run business that has been established for over 25 years. Our experience and love of creating great tasting products means our customers get quality in every jar.

Everything we make is in small batches using traditional farmhouse techniques and you are guaranteed a product that has no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.

5 Reasons To #ShopIrish This Christmas

After a tough year on businesses it’s vital to support local and #ShopIrish this year. From adapting to ongoing challenges and preparing for Brexit to sustaining employment and working harder than ever, local businesses need a boost in these uncertain times. Campaigns like #BuyDonegalWeekend are great initiatives to promote fantastic businesses on our doorstep and if you needed another little push to spend local, we’ve put together a short blog on five great reasons to #ShopIrish this Christmas:

Boosts Local Economy

When customers make a purchase from a local business more money is kept in the community and in turn, this helps grow other businesses. Why? Because SMEs purchase from other local businesses, service providers and farms. 70% of Irish e-commerce spend goes overseas so let’s keep it Irish this year and give our economy the boost it needs.

Creates Employment

This is likely the most important reason to buy Irish this year. Small local businesses are the largest employers nationally and we’re proud to have a strong team here at Filligans. Every €1 spent on local products generates more than €4 of benefits in terms of employment in our local communities. As an added plus, the more jobs in local communities means less people are going to have to commute which in turn reduces traffic and pollution.

Customer Service Is Better & You Matter More

Small business owners will always go the extra mile and we want to give you the best customer experience possible. Your local business knows how important you are and if you shop local, you can expect a friendly voice at the end of the phone or email. Local businesses understand how important it is to provide a smashing service because we survive on repeat custom and word of mouth.

Better Quality Christmas Gifts

Filligans is a small Irish business and all products are 100% natural. Everything is made in small batches, ensuring taste and quality aren’t compromised. Our customers are guaranteed a great quality product time and again – why wouldn’t anyone want that?

Lastly, when you buy from a small Irish business, you’re buying a piece of local. When you make a purchase from Filligans, you know where it’s coming from and the people behind it. We are immensely proud to be making a Donegal product that people love. Share the distinctive taste of Filligans with someone special this Christmas.

Sweet Success at Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards

The Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards took place on Saturday so we were thrilled to win Bronze for our Silkie Irish Whiskey Marmalade.

Here at Filligans, we are proud to create great tasting products that reflect both traditional and contemporary flavours. We also believe in partnerships and we were delighted to work with the team at Sliabh Diag Distillers to create this great tasting marmalade.

It also won a star in the recent Great Taste Awards. Here’s a comment from one of the judges:

“Sparkling and glossy with a vibrant amber colour and pretty flecks of both bright yellow and sunset orange from the tiny pieces of fruit peel. Warm, sweet, and tangy aromas abound with this firmer set marmalade packed full of finely chopped orange and lemon peel. Richly textured, the firmer peel adds a welcoming contrast to the soft and melting jelly. Fresh and bright, tangy and sweet with lively and spirited bitter notes from the pith on the finish leaving a welcome tingle on the tongue. Well balanced and a delight to find the sweetness well judged.”

4 Great Ways To Enjoy Filligans Chutneys

We are often asked what is the best way to eat chutney and the answer is, anyway you like! Today is #WorldChutneyDay so we’ve listed 4 great ways to enjoy our various traditional and contemporary Filligans chutneys.

1. Sandwiches

A great option if you’re having cooked ham or chicken and if you’re a fan of a grilled cheese sandwich, we highly recommend a little chutney. Here’s a little recipe to a grilled cheese we love.

2. Cheese

An obvious one, but it really is a fantastic accompaniment with artisan cheeses. If you’re having guests round, add some preserved or cured meats and crackers for a welcome platter.

3. Pork

Chutney goes brilliantly with cooked pork so don’t be afraid to stir up your taste buds and add it to chops or grilled sausages.

4. Side Order

Great tasting chutneys also go really well as a side with an Indian curry.

Whatever way you like it, we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback. You can check out our great range of Filligans Chutneys HERE.
